Jama Masjid Fatehpur Sikri

Jama Masjid Fatehpur Sikri

Buland Darwaza is the highest gateway in the world and is an example of Mughal architecture. It displays Akbar's empire

Epic is the best way to describe the Jama masjid at fatehpur Sikri, it is stunning from every angle.

In 1648 by Emperor Shah Jahan built this incredible Mosque (Yes he also built the taj mahal) dedicating it to his loving daughter, Jahanara Begum.
Fatehpur Sikri is one of the Major Pilgrimage  spots of India.
It is always amazing to me that so many people go to Agra to see the Taj Mahal but miss Fatephur Sikri it is an Epic Epic place, this page is just focused on the Mosque but you also have an ancient city attached.

I have seen many mosques but nothing compares to the Jama Masjid at Fatephur Sikri it is truly awe inspiring you walk around saying wow wow wow. This real old world magnificence this is a place that shows you that Emperor Shah Jahan was more than just the builder of the Taj Mahal the worlds most famous tomb. During his reign a whole lot of architectural wonders where built.
The Tomb of Sheikh Salim Chishti
This was the golden age of mugal architectural in India.
The Tomb of Sheikh Salim Chishti is famed as one of the finest examples of Mughal architecture in India, built during the years 1580 and 1581. It is a small marble building in a sea of red, its ornate and the level of craftsmanship is exceptional.
The tomb has been constructed on a platform which is about 1 m. high, a flight of five steps leading to the entrance. The main tomb building is enclosed by delicate marble screens on all sides, and the tomb is located in the centre of the main hall, which has a single semi-circular dome. The marble building is beautifully carved, and has an ivory-like appearance.

The Buland Darwaza is made of red sandstone, decorated by white and black marble. The Buland Darwaza has a terrace edge gallery on the roof, stylised battlements, small minar-spires, and incredible inlay work with white and black marble. On the outside a long flight of steps sweeps down the hill giving the gateway additional height. It is 40 metres high and 50 metres from the ground. The total height of the structure is about 54 metres from the ground level. It is a 15 storied high gateway acting as the southern entrance of the city of Fatehpur Sikri.  There are small turrets surrounding the gateway.

A Persian inscription on eastern archway of the Buland Darwaza records Akbar's conquest over Uttar Pradesh and the victory in Gujarat in 1601. An inscription on the central face of the Buland Darwaza describes Akbar's religious openness.
Buland Darwaza"Gate of Magnificence", was built in 1601 by Akbar
It took nearly 12 years to make the highest gateway.
Jama Masjid fatephur Sikri is more than just a beautiful Monument it is a place of huge significance to the Muslim community of India a place to take a pilgrimage too a place of worship, A real living Mosque.
The Articulate decoration of Fatehpur Sikri is a sight to Behold, the craftsmanship is immaculate.
