wat Saket Bangkok Thailand

Wat Saket Bangkok Thailand

I was originally visiting another Temple and saw Wat Saket with its amazing Golden temple at the top of the Hill, I then walked another 3 to 4 Kilometres to find the golden Mountain.

Wat Saket, or as it is More commonly known The Golden Mount is a Hill in Bangkok with a golden Buddhist temple at the Top although the whole hill has little Buddhist Shrines dotted across it. Unfortunately I never got to go to the temple at the top as it was closing time but I did get to wander around the rest of the grounds

You will also find some wonderful bodi trees, dense ferm and Orchid vegetation and even some figs around the sides and lower slops of the temple grounds, A Buddhist mediation and Prayer Temple with a Beautiful ornately decorated hall and library.

The hill has been used as place of worship since 1350 although the current complex was built during 1782-1809 by King Rama the 1st
Walking past the library up the hill

The walk to the Top includes 300 stepped that bend around the Hill by the time you reach the top you have circled the hill more than once.

The bell symbolises Buddha's voice. It calls for the protection of heavenly deities. The sound of the bell equals the sound of the Dharma.

A Buddhist mediation and Prayer Temple with a Beautiful ornately decorated hall unfortunately no photography allowed inside very disappointing.

One section is dedicated to the Chinese Zodiac, I was Born an Ox in Chinese Astrology
Some of the Ornate Decorations that scatter the Mountain are just Decedent.

300 years back way back in the 18th century over over 60,000 victims of Plague where cremated at this temple, At the time that must have been a massive percentage of the population, I guess that would mean that most of the population of Bangkok and Thailand would have someone related to them in there distant past fertilising the dense foliage of Wat Saket of Golden Mountain
The Temple stands out wherever you see it from.
